{ Spring Magic is a five lesson mini course of seasonal prompts and creative inspiration.}

Every season has its magic.

Spring's magic is the joy of renewal. It is the tentative, warm touch of sun on your face after months of cold and rain. It is the sensation of grass beneath your toes and the rising sound of birdsong in the bushes.

Spring brings us hope, in the moment that hope is most needed — the respite we’ve been yearning for after a long, cold winter. This, wrote Tolstoy in Anna Karenina, is ‘the time of plans and projects’ — an emergence from hibernation, a time of positivity and resolve.

I feel, in the spring, a kind of strange homesickness for myself. All the springs that have gone before crowd around me, nudging me with memories. I reach back towards them, grasping for spring moments past, but they have already floated away like dandelion seeds on the breeze. Every springtime, I must teach myself anew to believe in possibility — to unfasten myself and let joy in, accepting the gifts the season offers. In spring, blinking in new sunlight, I open my eyes wide to the world.

Spring’s magic is precious and fleeting — a season bounteous with potential for wonder, a time of endless ordinary miracles. To allow ourselves to be enchanted by the spring, we offer up a promise — we will take a little time out of the whirlwind of our days and stop to notice.

Will you join me, and open yourself up to spring magic? Together, let us feel the sun on our faces, and watch the leaves unfurl.
