I wonder what the water temperature is? We have ice now covering all of ours up now. The ice fishing shakes will be out shortly!

The water has taught me so much too in the 7 years since I started sea swimming (heading into my fifth winter of swimming). I relate to so much of your beautifully written piece, fellow mermaid🧜‍♀️

Finding this now from your note, and wondering just how many wild/sea/open water swimmers we have here on Substack?

Years ago, a friend of mine convinced me to plunge into the Pacific Ocean with her at sunset in February. We raced down the beach at a sprint and dove into the icy waves. It was a magical moment and your words reminded me of it so much!

I am absolutely too chicken to swim in the winter. I do love swimming (wild swimming as I always have a reaction to the chlorine in pools)... it makes me feel so free! But I hate being cold! It does sound absolutely incredible the way you’ve written it!

Bravo! I can hear your absolute pleasure in cold swimming and the fun it must be to share with your cousin. Although I don’t swim, even in summer, the joy of walking home in the cold and imaging the hot drink and warmth that awaits is so nourishing. New boots with thick souls mean my feet are more likely to be toasty when I’m out.

Thank you for the story.
