Here in Minnesota, USA - the lakes are still deeply frozen with long cold cracks where the warmth will seep in to melt the cold. Walking the lakes brings that sense of 'otherness' - a quiet world out in the middle of a frozen lake. Your writing of ice took my right out onto the local lake. Always love your detail that drops us into your space and time.

Thank you so much, Joanne. I love the thought of a frozen lake as an ‘other’ space.

I love your choice of details Laura - especially the DMs with the thin socks - conjures up outer toughness and inner vulnerability beautifully.

Denmark left a lasting impression on me too. Odense hung with flags for some unknown celebration, wood burning stoves, drinking tea from a bowl, wide open deserted beaches where we built a fire to warm our children. And on the way home my first and to date only sighting of whales.

Ahh, so good! 🇩🇰

Gorgeous. So much tenderness of life in so few words. Your self, the wider world, and your place in it all explored in this trip and wrapped up in that coat. 💚

Thank you so much, Katie. 🧥

As always, such an interesting and atmospheric read. Chasing 'otherness', I know the feeling. It can come unexpectedly and in a variety of places. For me, recently, an empty cathedral, all to myself for a blissful 5 minutes, and in the high tech arena for Abba Voyage, magic was in the air..

I hope that coat is providing warmth to another .

Thanks so much, Jude. I love these moments you describe and yes, I really hope the coat is still out there!
