Laura, I read--then reread--this heartfelt reminiscence, so lovingly recalled and cradled as another intimate 'small story'. I was reminded how 'searching' for something magical we once found usually proves futile. Such moments, after all, are magical because they are unplanned and serendipitous. When we try and recapture them, they elude us, like your sea urchins. Only fragments remain--of the thing itself or its memory. But when we aren't 'searching', trying to find that special moment again, it allows us to be open to other magical moments, of which there are many, if we walk through our days with open eyes and open hearts. Thank you for a lovely start to my day.
Thank you so much Jacqueline, you explain it so well. It’s so often not the thing itself that we are searching for, but the memory of the moment. You’re right—there’s magic out there to be found, and we carry it within us, too. I have a quote from The Secret Garden on my kitchen wall: ‘The magic is in you.’💫💫💫
You're right: [It's about] "...the memory of the moment." (Nice alliteration, too, by the way.) Lovely quotation from The Secret Garden--such a marvelous story. Need to reread it. Have you read the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery? Magical!
I loved reading this poignant memory. Our children, we cannot possibly remember even a tiny amount, and I've forgiven myself for this , but little stories like this are everything.
It's OK to not have recorded Big Moments, how can we hold so many , they are the more potent for their fleetingness . I have in mind an 18month old, and a carrier bag to catch the wind.
Yes, always too many to catch… but sometimes, when we least expect it, one of the tiny precious memories will drift back. I love the image of a tiny one catching the wind. 🤍
Laura thus brought back memories
Aww, I hope they were happy ones. 💫

Ah yes, I have, although not for some time now. Loved Anne.

Your reflection is beautiful.
I didn't know there were heart shaped urchins! Lovely.
I didn’t either until I found one! 🤍
Loved this. Gorgeous writing.
Thank you so much Jane. 🙏
