This looks utterly gorgeous. You say your breath caught, I would have been hyperventilating at the cold I think. I love a wild dip but can only seem to manage it in high summer when the air temperature is mid twenties or more. I don’t know if it gets easier the more you do it (and I’m sure you learn to regulate breathing) but I do so wish I was a wild swim in all the weathers kind of person rather than a “help me, I’m dying of being attacked by cold” kind of person.
Beautifully described as always, and yet I still don’t have your book. Off to fix that now.
Oh, that’s so lovely to hear, thank you! I’ve been swimming all through the winter so that definitely made it easier! I hope you will enjoy Chasing Fog 💚
Gorgeous, has me checking the weather app for the next pleasant day to spend time outside (where I am has had a cold, rainy spell, making the spring that’s just around the corner all the more tantalizing).
I had a bit of a meltdown due to a stressful unknown situation, I opened Substack, expecting to not find anything soothing and then I saw that you just published this. You eased me down, your words, the groundness, the earthness of this. thank you so much❤️
This time when the world looks bright yet the water still has that bite of cold is such a special one. It feels especially loaded with possibility, with possible beginnings especially rather than a sense that those things must be fully formed. Excited for your new project!
Such a gorgeous escape… even just reading this, I‘m breathing easier. 🩷
DELIGHTFUL <3 thank you for sharing this xo
Thanks so much for reading, Emma! ✨

So sorry things are stressful, Bonnie. I’m happy if this helped.
You’re braver than I am! Lovely piece!
I’ve been swimming all winter so either brave or foolish 😁
Yikes!
Such beautiful writing, as always, Laura. Thank you for sharing, and for the reminder of the simple pleasures just waiting to be noticed.
Thank you so much for reading. Yes, so much is there just waiting to be noticed…
So very beautiful. “Washing the dull tint of winter from my skin” is the most wonderful phrase. ☺️
